first began in 1922 when land was donated by
a local family. In 1923 a school house was constructed. the
original site was used until 1995 when the location became
the Lew Sorensen Center designed to serve the community and
house the school district resources. The new Tanque Verde Elementary School,
constructed in 1995, is located at 2600 N. Fennimore on a
beautiful 40-acre site. Student population is usually around
640 to 650 students. The average class size is in the low to
mid-twenties. We have over 40 teachers and an entire staff
of over 70. We are pleased that our district is supportive
of special classes such as art, music, PE, Spanish, library,
computers and instrumental band. We have a computer lab and
a science lab. We have a full time school nurse on
site. Tanque Verde has a very supportive Parent
Teacher Group, who is very active in our school.
Volunteerism is strong in our classrooms and fund-raising,
while quite successful, is one as gently as possible,
focusing on several major events rather than many smaller
ones. We are very proud of our students and our
community!
